About half a century ago, the Korean War had devastated most forests in Korea but a thorough planning and sheer determination by every Korean brought successful reforestation.  Currently, with forests covering 65% of its territory, Korea is eager to share its experience and know-how with the world particularly during the XXIII IUFRO World Congress.

Baekdu-daegan is the habitat to 54 protected species or about 46% of Korea’s total plant species. The  mountain range boasts not only as a biodiversity hotspot but success in reforestation. The “Seminar on the Baekdu-daegan” was attended by about 1,000 participants where Ko Un, a prominent Poet and Keynote Speaker of the Congress, shared a lecture. Click on the link below to read more:
